MEDICINE FOR THE MEEK

With the powerful vocals of singer-songwriter Shara Meek, and the rhythmical guitar-playing, which includes influences from Spain, country rock and folk, this is no ordinary band. Despite only being formed in early 2007, they are already attracting a loyal following, as witnessed at their recent gig at Carpe Diem in Leeds. With a new demo soon to be available on their myspace site, this is definitely a band, who are going places in 2008.

NO MACHINE - A TERRIBLE THING

NO MACHINE - A TERRIBLE THING

When listening to a newly acquired CD, your mind instantly makes comparisons to frequently played bands and artists, however after 45 minutes and eight seconds of quality rock from London band No Machine, you are left with a feeling of freshness from a breathtaking and powerful rock band, who deliver a collection of tracks, which even after hearing for the first time, gives the listener a mood of being with old friends. One could wax lyrical for page after page about both the band and its music, but the bottom line is this is one hell of a talented band, about to tour the UK. From Brighton to Aberdeen and all places between, will feel they have seen and heard something very special.

THE OWL, ROGER AND ALEX

If music is the food of life, then the Owl at Rodley is a five star Michelin restaurant. With a superb ambience and an acoustic feel, which very few venues can aspire to, the Owl is rapidly becoming a musical oasis. Last Friday was very much a case in point, with Alex Quinn showing a quality beyond his years and experience with memorable songs such as “8057 Days” and “I want Answers” supporting the highly talented and much respected Roger Davies. Roger has a delivery, humour and personality which flows easily, and shows an immense pride of his roots and of his own “neck of the woods.” With a unique talent of lyrical dexterity as shown in the song “Beer belly blues” and other memorable songs titled “Goin Solo,” “James Dean” and “Bradford Girl” the audience left the venue engulfed with a feel-good factor and musical fulfilment.
