NEW ROSCOE - THE NEW NASHVILLE

JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE

Justin Townes Earle took the New Roscoe audience through an American musical journey, which will be remembered long after the son of legendary singer-songwriter Steve Earle has packed his suitcases and landed back in the good old U S of A. With a confidence and stage presence reminiscent of Dwight Yoakam, Justin performed tales of 1930’s America through to his own modern-day classics of relationships, good and bad with a humour which put the packed venue at ease. The smoothness of his act as he crafted elements of the Blues, American Country and even Rock-style tunes, made this an evening to sit back and enjoy a craftsman at the peak of his profession.

THE LOST BROTHERS

Reading their myspace site reveals that The Lost Brothers are a very different and unique duo. With a deeper-voiced Everly Brothers sound to them, the duo are becoming favourite visitors to West Yorkshire. Bosh and Bark’s harmonic singing and guitar playing were the perfect support act for Justin Townes Earle.

MAGHRIBIBEAT - AL SHARITTE LA'AWAL

If you are not familier with North African music then you are in for a very pleasant surprise with the first CD from Maghribibeat. The Hebden Bridge based band have a following which is increasing rapidly and the release of this seven-track album will swell the numbers even further. The highly rhythmic and trance-like sound, typical of North Africa is reproduced with stunning effect. The percussionist in everyone will be brought to the fore, as its impossible not to join in to the rhythms as it becomes almost hypnotic. The band are becoming favourite performers at festivals around Yorkshire and beyond, and have already been featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 programme.

BLIND RIVER SCARE - KILLING TIME

Blind River Scare are now back in Wales after recently completing a first tour of Yorkshire. Their obvious love of Folk Rock/Americana and Alternative-Country shines through their five track CD “Killing Time.” The track “Out of my Hands” will surely become an audience participation favourite, especially as their fan-base increases. Over the years West Yorkshire has seen “The Durburvilles” become firm favourites on the “Live” music-scene with their “feel-good” sound and performances, Blind River Scare have the same quality. The combination of talented vocalists Tim Manning and Lisa Matthews, backed up by Jem Ponsford on drums, bassist Tim Brooke and fiddle player Debbie Hawkins produces a rounded and warm feel to each track. This is a CD which is ideal after a hard day at work, when the need to be lifted and transported to a “better place” is at it premium and the requirement of a feel-good quick-fix is at its height.
